Our Misson

St. John's is an inner city church in the heart of Christchurch, and we have two main aims in our ministry.

- To reach as many people as possible with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to    bring them into a relationship with Him.
- To see people grow in their faith and to equip them to minister to others.

We are a growing church of about 450 people of varying age groups, with lots of young families. We place a lot of importance on children and youth ministry and have a full time Youth Pastor/Children's Worker.

St. John's welcomes all visitors and newcomers, and if you want to become a member of the church family, then simply enquire at the Parish Office.

What We Believe

We are an evangelical Anglican Church with a strong emphasis that the Bible is the Word of God and has a very relevant message for our lives today.

Our beliefs about Christ are probably best summed up by the Matthias Media presentation, Two Ways to Live.

Our Services

Preaching and teaching are the main focus of all our services:

Our Sunday services,
Our weekly Bible Study groups, and
Our Youth Groups
as we endeavour to make the Bible shape our ministry and life together as a church family.

Our Teaching Resources

Another important ministry at St. John's is our tape library. Our practice here is to preach through books of the Bible. Each sermon is recorded and kept in our library. These sermons are used in a variety of ways. For example there are people who cannot come to a particular Sunday service, but who can borrow a tape so as not to miss any part of the book we're studying. The tapes are also used by individuals or groups who may not live in Christchurch, but who don't have access to consistent Biblical preaching. These folk order them from our Parish Office on a regular basis. This tape library is open to all. Tapes cost $3 (NZ) per tape. (2 sermons.)

We also have online copies of sermons. You can listen to recent sermons, either while online, or by downloading a copy.

So a very warm welcome to St. John's, and if you are visiting Christchurch, or moving here, come and join us.

Wally.
